Reading Workshop: 

This week we will continue to learn about "Paired Passages" while also continuing to learn about words in context. As we work with paired passages, we will begin to compare/contrast the two text looking at the things they have in common, or how they differ.

Writing Workshop:

Reteaching will begin this week for anyone who needs extra practice with Revising and Editing concepts for our test. Retesting will be Friday, March 1. 

This week, we will continue to work with combining sentences, as well as working through the writing process (Prewriting, Drafting, Revising, Editing, Publishing).

This Week in ELAR: February 18 - 22


Reading Workshop:

This week we will begin working with Paired Passages. Students will read Fiction, Narrative Nonfiction, and Nonfiction texts to compare and contrast. We will also look at text features in both, and what purpose they serve.

Texts we will use this week: Faithful Elephants (click on link)
Although NF Texts will vary throughout the week, they will be over Elephants.


Writing Workshop:

This week students will choose different genres to write to, as well as learn how to combine sentences more effectively in writing.

Test # 2 - Revising/Editing Writing Test (60%) Grade: Thursday, February 21.

Test #3 - Written Composition (60%) Grade: Written Prompt
*Students will use a link this week, as they choose 1 of their three Writing Compositions to submit for their final test grade of the 9 weeks.

ELAR WEEK: February 11 - 15

Reading Workshop:
This week in Reading Workshop students will become "Playwrights" as they create scripts to rewrite, or add to, previously written texts. In doing so, we will also learn about and celebrate notable African Americans, and their history, for February's Black History Month.

Some of the texts students will choose from -
* Amazing Grace
* Henry's Freedom Box
* Follow the Drinking Gourd
* Pictures of Jackie Robinson 
* The Other Side
* If a Bus Could Talk
* The Story of Ruby Bridges




Writing Workshop:
In Writing Workshop we are continuing to revise texts so that they read more effectively. Students will also be going through the Writing Process as they respond to prompt(s).





Word Work:
In Word Work this week we will continue to work with Idioms as well as correcting sentences using previously learned parts of speech.

ELAR WEEK: February 4 - February 8

Reading Workshop:

This week in Reading we will take our Unit 4 Assessment on Drama. I have scheduled our class to assess on Friday, February 8.

Students will also work on their Digital Wall Performance Task. Here they will work with a Drama text while applying previously learned concepts such as Prefixes, Suffixes, Context Clues, and other elements.


Writing Workshop:

This week we will meet in small groups to conference/discuss about Revisions of texts. We will revise texts, while also continuing to write to a prompt using all 5 steps of the Writing Process.


Work Work:

This week we will learn about Idioms. Students will also continue to work with analogies.
