Reading Workshop:

This week we continue to dig deeper into ideas we've been studying such as Point of View, Non-Fiction Texts vs. Fiction Texts, and Text Evidence. 

Students will continue to build their stamina in reading and respond about their texts through literary responses.

We will also look at how well are we tracking our reading and our learning through our Reader Notebooks.

Writing Workshop: 

This week we will begin using our writing abilities to respond to images. This will cause us to have to think about the images we see, our own personal connections, and how we can use our thinking to be creative and tell/write a story.

 Handwriting: 
Students will work on connecting letters: fhkleb

At the end of the first 9 weeks, students are expected to do the following with texts: 
-Know the Plot Elements of a story (exposition, rising actions, climax, falling actions, resolution)

-Write the Plot of a story in a written response

-Poetry Devices

-Nonfiction Text Features / Text Structures 




1st 9 Weeks Student Standards
August 14 - October 9 (2020)

At the end of the first 9 weeks, students are expected to do the following with texts: 

- Understand the Reading Workshop 

- Discuss and Write an Author's Purpose ( the true message the author was trying to convey) with text evidence.

- Make Connections between texts, to themselves, and the world with text evidence.

- Book Talk: Speak about a book through a Book Talk

Reading Workshop: 

This week our lesson will be over Point of View, and what are some ways can we determine who is telling a story. For example a narrator might use words such as, "he", "she", "they", this is considered 3rd Person Point of View. 

A character speaking in the story might use the words, "I", "me", "we", this is considered 1st Person Point of View.

Note: We will have library Monday. This is an opportunity for students to check out new books for the week, or renew anything they are currently still reading.

Writing Workshop: 

This week students will publish their final drafts of their Personal Narratives. They will have now gone through all of the Writing Process (Pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing).

1st Writing Test: DUE Thursday, October 24
Content: Personal Narrative about a moment in their life
Grade: 60%




Guided Reading

This week students will work with new texts during Guided Reading where they will have opportunities to compare / contrast the two texts. These are books they should take home and spend time reading with as well throughout the week.
