Reading Workshop:
This week students will continue to learn about Theme. We will also begin moving into understanding the Standard: Inferencing.

When we infer, we form a reasonable guess based on evidence and reasoning.

Read Aloud: "Quickest Kid in Clarksville"
Students will determine Theme.

Writing Workshop:
Students will continue to wrap up their Writing Compositions for their test.


Grammar Talks: 
This week we will begin learning about Prepositions.
Prepositions are words which link nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words in a sentence. Prepositions usually describe the position of something.

EX:
about, around, above, below....

Reading Workshop:
This week we will wrap up Summary and begin discussing, Theme. Theme is similar to the message of a text, or the overall idea, for example, "Never give up."

We will also take our Summary Assessment 60% on Thursday, January 23. 

This week we are still assessing students on their MOY (middle of year) reading progress.


Writing Workshop:
This week students will begin their Personal Narratives. Students have worked with this genre for a large part of the year, and this week students will be assessed over how well they understand the genre. This assessment will count for : Composition 60% and Conventions/Sentence Structure 60%.

Reading Workshop:
This week we will continue to work with summary. We have been writing to summarize, but we will also read texts this week and determine summary by which is the best written summary we are given.

We are also in the middle of our "Middle of the Year" (MOY) checks. This means I am doing some reading assessments to check where students are, and how they are progressing.


Writing Workshop:
This week students will continue to do their ":Middle of the Year"(MOY) Writing checkpoints. In doing this, students will also work on a written portion by responding to a prompt to check response to a composition, their sentence structure, as well as their understanding of conventions.
