ELAR WEEK: February 24 - 28

February 24 - 28


Reading Workshop:
This week students will begin to learn about Poetry! We will look at the elements of poetry and also what message is trying to be conveyed through a poem. With this, we will also take a look at Figurative Language, and its purpose within poetry. 

Writing Workshop:
This week we will begin to study more about how Personal Narratives and Expository Writing differ. We will also look at what beginnings and endings should look like within the two. Students will also continue to work on revising and editing practice within texts. 

Grammar Talks:
Combining sentences

ELAR WEEK: February 10 - February 14

ELAR WEEK: February 10 - February 14

Reading Workshop:
This week we will have our Unit Test (60%) on Wednesday, February 12.
This test will consist of Inferencing and other Essential Standards we have been studying throughout the year.
Students will have the opportunity for continued practice in Inferencing as we read and meet in small group teams throughout the week.
Monday we will also have our biweekly visit to the library to check or recheck out books.


Writing Workshop: 
This week students will begin to learn about primary and secondary sources.


Grammar Talks:
Students will continue to learn about conjunctions.

Homework is DUE, Thursday, February 6. 

This homework is a good practice as students prepare for the state writing test and learn how to revise and edit in a multiple choice situation.

ELAR WEEK: February 3 - February 7

ELAR WEEK : February 3 - February 7

Reading Workshop:
This week we will continue to work on Inferencing. Students are learning how to use "literal recounts" also known as their text evidence to support the inferences they make. Students are also learning that inferences must be reasonable!

We will also continue to meet in our Guided Reading Teams. This is where we will work on comprehension skills as well as tailored lessons to what we need as an individual reader.

Writing Workshop:
We will continue to learn about prepositions and review how we can correct run on sentences.
