Reading Workshop:
This week we will begin Unit 6. This unit will cover elements of Poetry.

Reading Workshop:
This week we will continue to work with Paired Passages. We will reflect and discuss our most previous texts "Faithful Elephants" and "Elephants Rumble" from our compare/contrast assignment as we gear up for our new texts this week!

Text 1: Amelia Earhart 1897-1937
Text 2: Amelia Earhart - Legend in Flight 

Students will read these texts throughout the week as we discuss the similarities and differences they have, along with other ideas presented within the texts.

UNIT 5 Assessment: 60% - Thursday, March 21. 


Writing Workshop:

This week students will begin Part 2 of their Performance Task. Students will use the notes from their previous 3 Sources in Reading to write an Expository Essay about animals and where they live. Students will also cite their sources using the correct format.


Word Work: 
Students will continue to work with new vocabulary as they study prefixes/suffixes.
Students will work with the Greek and Latin Root "bio"
Students will continue to use idioms, homophones, and analogies as they work throughout the week.

Reading Workshop: 

This week we will begin Part 1 of our Performance Task for Unit 5. Students will begin reading 3 different NF Sources:
-It’s a Cold (Hot, Dry, Dark) Cruel World! (Source #1)
-Animal Architects (Source #2)
-Don’t Step on the Ecosystem! (Source #3)

*Note: Performance Tasks often serve as a 60% grade.

Students will take notes as they research throughout all three sources, then respond to 3 questions.

We will also continue to work with Paired Passages using different genres to compare and contrast ideas in texts.


Writing Workshop:

This week students will continue to use the writing process as they respond to prompts/ or creatively write.
