Reading Workshop: 

This week we will begin new lessons over Author's Purpose and using Text Evidence to support our thinking. Students will learn to justify their belief of an Author's Purpose by using their annotations of Text Evidence.

Writing Workshop:

This week we will continue to use the writing process - Prewriting, as we continue to add a new strategy to our writing, 'Strong Emotion'. Students will jot down moments of when they experienced a strong emotion. This is another strategy that helps us as writers to brainstorm our thinking as we build our stories.

Week 6: September 14 - September 18

Reading Workshop:

This week will be a work week for us. This means we will begin some reteach on concepts to ensure we are understanding our essential standards. We will also continue to spiral back to concepts through some task stations, as well as incorporate our Independent Reading with stamina. We are still monitoring and addressing reading habits through our Reading Assessments, so we will continue those as needed throughout the week. These assessments are set to be finalized the second to third week of October. 

Writing Workshop:

This week students will focus on the 3 keys of writing. Cursive, Grammar, and Writing Compositions. Students are currently working on Strategy 1 - Important People. Students will create graphic organizers as they begin the writing process with 'Prewriting', naming those small moments with the important people in their lives.

Week 5: September 8 - September 11

Reading Workshop:

This week students will continue to interact with the text "Junkyard Wonders" as they use the strategies they have been learning to annotate their thinking. Students will also create another book talk as they prepare for their Performance Task on Friday. This is a 60% grade. 

Writing Workshop:

Students will continue to learn the ins and outs of beginning cursive as well as continue with learning new strategies in Writing Workshop on how to begin a composition. For example, moments with important people and important places.

Reader Workshop:

This week we will continue to build on the idea about what readers do as we take a look at Book Talks! Students will also learn how to give a Book Talk as they continue to use strong academic vocabulary while speaking. 

Thursday, September 3 : Students will take their first 60% assessment over what good readers do. They will respond through their writing about how readers are thinkers, readers think about certain characteristics within a story, readers must use correct etiquette while speaking, and readers use strong academic vocabulary to express their ideas.

Writing Workshop:

This week we will learn about what Writing Workshop looks like. We will also begin to look at Author's Craft and what authors do in their writing, and they types of vivid sentences they use to convey their thoughts. 

Students will also continue to learn about cursive movements as we step more into cursive.
